Auction Groups

Wheeling Auction Group - Spring 2011

Charter offers you the opportunity to be part of the most successful and longest running auction group in the greyhound industry - Charter Kennels Wheeling Auction Group ! I want to draw your attention to (4)  key items detailing what Charter offers to owners who sign up for the auction.

  • An opportunity to own 8-10 of the best young greyhounds in the country to race at Wheeling Island -

The Charter Kennel will once again offer the owners an opportunity to own some of the best greyhounds in the country through participating in the Wheeling Auction Group...in its 27th year !Our purpose will be the same as its been in previous auctions and that is to leave Abilene with the top talent to compete at the top paying track in the country Wheeling Island. Our goal is to purchase 8-10 greyhounds for this group.

  • Bonus Litter - 10 pups off the farm - Sired by Uss Cool Luke !!
Once again a litter of pups will be offered for sale to the owners of the group at a reduced cost - as with all previous groups this is optional .
Recent litters have been sired by Lonesome Cry and Tk Quick Strike !

  • An opportunity to own a top sire once there race days are over -

Dodgem By Design ,Lonesome Cry, Tk Quick Strike...All three of these great greyhounds were part of auction groups and all (3) have active sire careers . If a greyhound that belongs to an auction group that you are part of goes on to have a career as a sire you are eligible to be part of there second career - as some of these great greyhounds finish there race careers a second career as a sire awaits them and it can be an extremely profitable  for the owners... just ask the Dodgem By Design and Lonesome Cry auction group owners who have received commissions long after there race days were over. Dodgem By Design and Lonesome Cry are the  # 1  and  # 2  sires in the country !

The auction group owners of Tk Quick Strike have this to look forward to as he is now starting to generate much interest as a sire. His off spring at Derby Lane , Strike Out King and Strike Point are creating a lot of buzz .

The very successful Fall 2008 Wheeling Auction Group may also have a sire career to be involved in for both Uss Cool Luke and Kb's Nantucket , I have receive inquires about both so stay tune for more on that.

  • A chance to win a greyhound for $75

Brand new offer to the owners who join the auction group - one lucky owner will win a greyhound for $75

For every $1,500 spot you purchase in the auction group you are also eligible to purchase a $75 raffle ticket to win a greyhound-this will be a purchase by Rodney at the NGA auction - the greyhound will start there careers at 1 of the 5 Charter tracks and we will draw the winner before the auction so if you are the winner you will hear from Rodney when he makes your purchase. The lucky winner will own a greyhound  purchased at the NGA auction for $75 - you must be part of the auction group to be eligible.

( Note: in order to make this offer work we must sell a minimum of 50 raffle tickets)

We will offer positions in the Auction Group at $1500 per spot...you can purchase as many spots as you wish and you can purchase an equal amount of raffle tickets. No funding is due just yet so to reserve your spot /spots just send an e-mail to Moe .

Please let me know how many spots you want and number of raffle tickets.

2010 Fall Wheeling Auction Group

Wheeling Auction Group Fall 2010   & The $150,000 World Greyhound Futurity

This invitation is being sent to all registered owners with Charter Kennel. Our purpose will be the same as its been in previous 25 years of the most successful auction groups in greyhound racing and that is to leave Abilene with the top talent to compete at the top paying track in the country Wheeling Island.

There is a twist this year ... The $150,000 World Greyhound Futurity

Charter Kennels has purchased (2) entries in the World Greyhound Futurity race to be run at Victoryland in 2011 with an estimated Purse of $150,000...each entry cost $2,100 for a total cost to Charter of $4,200...the best (2) greyhounds that we purchase this fall will be entered in the World Greyhound Futurity...since the auction group will target 8-10 greyhounds for the group we stand a great chance that the Futurity entries will come from the fall group. Only greyhounds whelped between July 1 ,2009 and December 31st , 2009 are eligible .One more benefit the entry fee of $2,100 per greyhound is waived , fully funded by Charter.

The fall group will close at a set dollar amount (to be determined) , so it is likely that the fall group with (2) greyhounds to be entered in the $150,000 futurity will sell out as this is a major stakes event which we are going after not just to participate in but to win. The invitation was sent out a little over a week ago to all those who participated in the last auction...and as you can see by the result it is likely that the fall group with (2) greyhounds to be entered in the $150,000 futurity will sell out !

Fall 2009 Wheeling Auction Group - October 12-17th, 2009

Fall 2009 Wheeling Auction Group - GROUP IS COMPLETE

Each Spring and Fall if you choose to participate in the auction groups you have an opportunity to own some of the finest greyhounds in the country. Our purpose has been the same for 25 years and that is to go after the top talent offered at the National Greyhound Association auctions to race at the top track in the country.

We believe that the prices may be lower this auction which should allow us to find top talent at good prices. Our goal is to purchase 8-10 greyhounds for this group (although the size of the group will impact this greatly!)
The Fall 2008 auction group was closed at $150,000 and the Spring 2009 group at $75,000.

  • Kb's Nantucket (Fall 2008 Group) - Nantucket is racing and winning grade AA at Wheeling. Purchase price $5,500
  • In all we made 13 purchases for the Fall 2008 group of which 8 advanced to grade AA at Wheeling and 2 others are running grade A at Derby Lane and Flagler

The 2009 National Greyhound Association Spring Meet April 20th - 25th

Its time to start thinking about the Spring 2009 Wheeling Auction Group. This auction will mark the 24th successful year that the Charter Kennel has put together an auction group that will offer to our owners an opportunity to own the best greyhounds in the country. As in previous years our intention is to purchase greyhounds that will compete at the top paying track in the country...Wheeling Island.

We are going to make a change for this group.  We have decided to offer spots in the group in increments of $1,500.  We will offer as many spots as the owners choose to purchase and at the cut off date we will go to the auction with as much funding as we have. The total value of the group combined with the number of spots you have purchased will determine the percent that you own of the group.  The examples below should help make this clear:

First line

If you were to purchase 10 spots at $1,500 and we sold a total of 80 spots then the group would be worth $120,000 and you would own 12.50% of the group.

Second line
If we only sold 70 spots and the group was worth $105,000 then you would own 14.28% of the group.

Third line

If we  sold 60 spots then the group would be worth $90,000 and you would own 16.66%

I think you can follow how this works...there are several other examples below.

In addition to the NGA auction purchases the Spring 2009 auction group will also have an opportunity to take advantage of:

10 bonus pups offered from Lonesome Cry

 - We will offer a complete litter out of Brick Oven -- and the balance of pups from another female to be named later

Just send me an e-mail with the number of $1,500 spots you would like to reserve no money will be due until March 21st!
